Important message - Christmas visiting

Visiting during the festive period – Saturday 24 December until Sunday 6 January

Winter illnesses in our community have risen sharply, especially flu, but numbers of COVID-19 and infectious diarrhoea and vomiting (norovirus) are also rising.

To protect our patients, families and our teams we ask that you please wear a face mask when visiting any of our sites and we encourage you to wash your hands regularly.

Very importantly, please could we ask that people should not visit our sites if:

  • They have tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 5 days,
  • They have symptoms of a cold or flu and have a high temperature or feel unwell
  • They have had diarrhoea or vomiting in the last 48 hours

Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Parkview Clinic

For inpatients, two family members and one sibling at any one time, should you wish to bring any more children on to a ward this will need to be agreed by the nurse in charge. Visiting hours are between the hours of 8am and 8pm. This applies across all areas of our Children’s hospital and our Parkview Clinic. One parent/carer is able to stay overnight with their child.

To safely support this:

  • Our ward nursing teams will ask all families, prior to the sibling(s) visiting, a series of questions to ensure there is no infection risk to patients if they attend.
  • Only two adults and one sibling, per bedspace, can attend at any one time.
  • Siblings must always be supervised by an adult.
  • Siblings cannot use the communal spaces on the wards.
  • Other visitors, besides the two at the bedspace, cannot wait within clinical areas.
