Shelagh Musgrave

BCH Carer Governor

As the primary carer for her adult daughter who lives with mental ill health and is supported by our mental health service, Forward Thinking Birmingham, Shelagh welcomes the opportunity to represent families who use Forward Thinking Birmingham’s services on the Council of Governors. She believes our Trust leads the way with a mental health service that covers such a wide age range and she’d like to help us ensure children and young people with mental illnesses receive the same level of care as those with physical illnesses. Shelagh is Carer Experience Lead on a multi-disciplinary working group that is creating a new Family & Carer Pathway to be implemented in a local mental health Trust and has experience in governance, chairing committees and being part of a governing body. She is passionate about ensuring that the voices of carers are represented when designing and implementing changes to services. Outside of advocating for carers and her daughter, she is also an exercise instructor for older adults, devours books, sings in a performance choir and loves hill walking and cycling.
