The Commonwealth Games and your appointment

Get Set for the Games written on a pink background The Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 is almost here, and this may have an impact on getting to an appointment for you or your child.

From Thursday 28 July to Monday 8 August, the Games will be taking place at venues across Birmingham, and we expect that this will increase traffic congestion and create more demand for parking around our hospital sites.

Please bear this in mind when planning your journey to your appointment. Set off in plenty of time to get to us and to park your car or consider using public transport where possible.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital

The city centre, around the Children’s Hospital, will become busier with visitors going to and from events. There will be a shuttle bus stop taking visitors to the Alexander Stadium close to the hospital which may draw crowds on event days. At 8am on Thursday 28 July the Queen's Baton Relay visits the Children's Hospital which may draw people close to the site as it the Baton works it's way through the grounds. Saturday 30 July is marathon day which will see many city centre roads closed to traffic.

Birmingham Women’s Hospital

With Games venues at Edgbaston Stadium and the University of Birmingham close to the Women’s Hospital, we expect that this area will become busier, particularly on events days. From 19 July, the university also plays host to the Games village, which means local roads won’t allow stopping or parking. On Saturday 30 July, roads around Edgbaston will be closed for the marathon.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while the Games are on, and we are excited that Birmingham will play host to this fantastic event.
