Fetal Medicine

As per government guidelines we are following the hands, face, space and test guidelines, this does mean we have to restrict access to protect you and your family.

We can now allow one partner to attend appointments at our Fetal Medicine department.

Please note that if you are attending for an emergency early pregnancy assessment appointment then the following steps do not apply and no test is required.

If you would like your partner to attend your appointment with you, please follow the instructions the below:

1. Nominate ONE person who you wish to accompany you, children cannot be accommodated and will not be permitted to enter.

2. Check with your nominated person that they have no COVID symptoms, or have been in contact with anyone who have symptoms in the previous 10 days..

3. In order for your nominated person to be permitted onto the premises, they must have had a negative COVID 19 PCR or lateral flow test in the previous 24 hours and show this letter. The result of this test must be shown to the security staff at the front entrance of the hospital and then again on entry to the unit. The result will either be emailed or sent as a text, or can be sent directly to the test and trace app via the test QRS code. You may also produce your plastic test strip, if you have been able to do a home test.

4. It is the responsibility of the individual to arrange a test themselves at a local testing centre or to obtain a free self-test kit from your local pharmacy.

If your nominated person has a self-testing kit, this can also be used, uploading the QR code to the test and trace app, or bring your testing strip with you to the hospital. A new test must be completed every day.

Please ensure that the nominated individual remains in your home social bubble and does not mix with others unnecessarily, to reduce the risk of infection. When at your appointment you must maintain social distancing of 2 metres with staff or other patients or partners.

At this time we are very sorry, but we do not have the capacity for testing of partners visiting our inpatient areas, unless it is an emergency.

If you feel you have extenuating circumstances that place you outside of these recommendations please speak to a member of staff caring for you who can signpost you to a member of the senior midwifery/nursing team for consideration.

If you have any concerns regarding this pilot plan, please speak with the department using the number on your appointment letter.
