Blood transfusion
Some children and young people coming into hospital might need to have a blood transfusion as part of their operation or treatment.
Your doctor or nurse will talk to you about this at your outpatient appointment, pre-admission clinic visit or during your stay in hospital.
They will help you to understand the reasons why you might need a blood transfusion and what happens when you have a transfusion. They will also be able to answer any more questions you or your family might have.
