Amrik Sanger, Domestic Assistant BCH For this year’s National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, to highlight some of the roles that colleagues in our Vital Services perform each day, we spoke with members of the Facilities Team at our Children’s Hospital to get an insight into their work.

Meet Amrik Sanger, Domestic Assistant.

What is your job title, team name and role within the team?

I am Amrik Sanger and my job title Domestic Assistant working for Vital Services at our Children’s Hospital. My role within the team is the Evening Domestic for our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

How would you describe a typical day/ shift?

I come into work Monday to Friday at 2pm, I clock-in and say hi to the team in the office before starting my shift. I then go up to PICU and start emptying bins and cleaning, working with the clinical team to make sure I complete any tasks that they need to make sure there are no delays in patient care. I finish work at 10pm, clock-out and say goodbye to the team.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy working on PICU. I have worked here 10 years with 9 years on PICU, so everybody knows me. Even the doctors know my name but I still need to learn their’s because there are too many staff up there to remember them all.

What achievement are you most proud of?

The work I do keeping PICU clean with the morning team to make sure we pass our weekly cleaning audits.

Not a lot of people know this but……

At least once a week, I go to the local leisure centre with my wife and children to play Badminton.
