A Day in the Life of Hasina Mulla, Head of the Linen Team – Birmingham Children’s Hospital Facilities

Hasina Mulla Linen Team Facilities What is your job title, team and role within the team?

I am the head of the Linen Department. We are based on the Lower Ground Floor of the Children’s Hospital. There are 4 members of the team in total.

How would you describe a typical day/ shift?

I arrive into work at 6am every morning. We deal with all of the clean and dirty linen deliveries and collections in and out of the hospital. We also distribute clean laundry to all areas of the hospital throughout the day, which includes everything from sheets and blankets to towels, cot blankets, theatre scrubs and patient gowns. We also have to regularly change, launder and repair curtains for all wards in the hospital too, which is a constant task.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

The Linen Team are a really hard working and conscientious team who take on their responsibilities to ensure all departments have large quantities of freshly laundered linen daily. We probably deliver 4-5,000 sheets, 3,500 blankets and over 3,000 towels a week alone. It is an incredibly physically demanding job for my team and I really appreciate all their hard work.

What achievement are you most proud of?

I feel that my team does an absolutely fantastic job, given the volume of linen that we deal with on a weekly basis and considering that we are only a team of four.

Not a lot of people know this but……

My husband and I have a large allotment at the bottom of our garden which we are in the process of cultivating. We are planning on growing fresh vegetables and flowers there, which all of our friends and family can benefit from.
