A Day in the Life of Josh Rist, Electrician - Birmingham Children’s Hospital Estates
What is your job title, team and role within the team?
I am an Electrician and I work predominantly at the Children’s Hospital in the Estates Department for Vital Services but due to a recent change in my job role I also now work across all sites. My team consists of around fifty people across both sites. I complete any reactive electrical work or pre-planned maintenance work.
How would you describe a typical day/ shift?
Every day is busy and varied, dealing with preventative, reactive, remedial and emergency works depending on the demands of the Trust. My work covers not only electrical systems but medical gas, air con, HVAC and ELV systems like Nursecall.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I most enjoy the variety of the work. No two days are the same which makes the role more exciting and interesting. I also enjoy training my apprentices and sharing my knowledge and experience to help develop new members of the team.
What achievement are you most proud of?
Our team of Electricians built a new Christmas Star for the Christmas tree at Birmingham Children’s Department.
Not a lot of people know this but……
Ten years ago, I originally applied for a job as a porter at our Children’s Hospital before being directed to a role Estates.
