A Day in the Life of the Compliance Team – Birmingham Children’s Hospital Estates
What is your team’s name and role?
The Compliance Team are based within the Estates Department at the Children’s Hospital for Vital Services predominately, however all the team work across and cover all sites. The team work to ensure we avoid causing harm to the Estates Department staff, Vital Services and Trust staff, patients and visitors by ensuring we comply with legal regulations, Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs), British Standards and Good Practice, for management and maintenance. We find out which areas we are complying with and which areas are we not complying with and help to fix the gaps.
The team consists of six individuals who each have different roles and responsibilities. They are James Milner, Estates Compliance Manager, Norman Rowland, Asset Manager, Mica Moore, Estates Compliance Officer, Tina Best, Document Controller, Conrad Noble, Estates CAFM & Systems Administrator and Henry Sakyi, Health and Safety Manager.
How would you describe a typical day/ shift?
Our days vary depending on deadlines which are governed by meetings and national reporting. We juggle a number of tasks at any one time and have to work together to ensure we a prioritising our workload.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
No two days are the same, the variety of the work keeps us all busy in different ways as we are all working together to achieve our end goal, patient experience improvement. The people we work with make our day, our Vital Services colleagues and working with the wider trust.
