An apprenticeship is a real job with a real salary, so you can train while still earning a wage, working towards a recognised qualification.
More than 90% of our apprentices go on to secure jobs within the NHS at the end of their apprenticeship. As part of our apprenticeship programme, you may have access to a range of additional exciting enrichment activities.
At the Trust, we offer two main types of apprenticeships delivered by our in-house vocational centre
- Clinical Healthcare Apprenticeship
- Customer Services Apprenticeship
In addition to the above apprenticeships, other opportunities may be available through partnerships with other training providers and Universities.

Clinical Healthcare Apprenticeship
Healthcare Assistant covers a range of occupations including nursing assistants, clinical support workers, nursing auxiliaries and therapy assistants.
A Healthcare Assistant provides personal care duties for patients and vital assistance to healthcare professionals in diagnosing, treating and caring for patients. Healthcare Assistants can work in therapy, and assist physiotherapists, radiographers, podiatrists, speech therapists, dieticians and occupational therapists.
These are rewarding support roles with a direct impact on patient experience and offer an ideal entry route to a wide range of NHS careers.
Many clinical support workers assist healthcare professionals in the delivery of patient care, taking on some of the more routine tasks such as welcoming and preparing patients, explaining treatment and updating patient records.

A great stepping-stone to progressing up the NHS career ladder, you could be supported to progress into further training, such as a foundation degree to become an assistant practitioner or a senior healthcare assistant. You could also go further and with the right qualifications/evidence of academic ability, as a healthcare professional such as a nurse, podiatrist, midwife or occupational therapist.

Healthcare Support Worker Level 2 | Senior Healthcare Support Worker Level 3
You can apply through the National Apprenticeship Service website or via the NHS Jobs Website.

Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship
The role of a customer service practitioner is to deliver high-quality products and services to the patients and their families within the trust in the workplace, digitally, or through our many outreach programmes.
These may be one-off or routine contacts and include dealing with orders, payments, offering advice, guidance and support, meet-and-greet, sales, fixing problems, aftercare, service recovery or gaining insight through measuring customer satisfaction. You will also gain evidence from interactions with internal customers, other departments and contractors.
The course is 15 months, with 12 months on programme learning and end point assessment in the final 3 months.
From there you can take further qualifications and progress in your customer service career in the NHS. You could stay in customer service and become a team leader or supervisor, become an administration manager or move into other wider healthcare roles. If you like figures, you could use your skills and experience to move into finance. Or if you’re keen on IT you could move into informatics.
With experience and qualifications, there is also the chance to work towards a management qualification which could lead to different management roles within the NHS such as administration management or GP practice management.
