Doctors applying to join our team can be confident they will enhance their careers through collaborating with some of the most highly-qualified experts in the UK.

We support all staff in their professional development, whether on formal training programmes or through career development and progression. We do this through structured training, dedicated CPD, attendance at professional meetings and conferences as well as support for further academic study. This also includes supporting professional registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) and higher examinations such as the Fellowship examination of the Royal College of Pathologists.

Why Choose Our Children’s Services?

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is the UK’s leading specialist paediatric centre, caring for children and young people up to the age of 16. Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, our Children’s Hospital is considered a world leader providing some of the most advanced treatments, complex surgical procedures and cutting-edge research and development.

As a global centre of excellence for complex heart conditions, the treatment of burns, cancer and liver and kidney disease, our medical and surgical paediatric teams have research opportunities. We are a nationally designated specialist centre for epilepsy surgery, and small bowel and liver transplantation and host the paediatric major trauma centre for the West Midlands.

We are also home to one of the largest Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in the country, with a dedicated inpatient Eating Disorder Unit and Acute Assessment Unit for regional referrals of children and young people with the most serious of problems (Tier 4). We also run Forward Thinking - a unique community mental health service for 0-25-year-olds.

Why Choose Our Women’s Services?

Birmingham Women’s Hospital is a centre of excellence, providing specialist services to more than 50,000 women, men and their families every year from our city, the wider region and beyond.

We are one of only two dedicated women’s hospitals in the UK, providing complex care to women undergoing high-risk pregnancies and are a tertiary referral centre for many obstetric and gynaecological pathways.

We offer a full range of gynaecological, maternity and neonatal care delivering more than 8,200 babies a year. Our Fertility Centre is one of the best in the country attracting referrals from across the Midlands region. Our fetal medicine centre receives regional and national referrals and we are home to the West Midlands Regional Genetics Laboratory - the largest of its type in Europe.

We’re also proud to be an international centre for education and research and development, with a research budget of more than £3 million per year.
