Meet the Team – Linen and Post Room Team - Birmingham Women’s Hospital

Starting at 7.30am, we unload the linen order and stock the shelves. We then move to departments across the whole hospital, checking their stock levels and restocking as required. We service all the hospital wards including the Neonatal Unit, Delivery Suite, Induction, Recovery and Birth Centre. Our Duties also cover checks on the level of scrubs available across the hospital; Delivery Suite and the Pod being the busiest area for scrubs!

Our dedicated teams work together to supply our Women’s Hospital with clean, fresh linen ready for their busy days ahead. Whether this be the babies being delivered on the Delivery Suite or women having operations on our gynae wards, we are passionate about making sure the linen they use while at our hospital is the best it can possibly be. We also understand the importance of fresh scrubs being available for our staff to continue to provide the quality service they do for their patients.

The Post Room is the hub of communication for BWH not only do we have internal post that has to be sorted but we also have countless deliveries during the day that include post from other hospitals, parcels for our staff and much more. We all fully trained in the usage of the franking machine and keep tally of the finances associated with it.

In May 2022 alone, we franked 24,868 parcels and letters!

Uniforms are vital to the hospital and represent not only our departments but also the community of BWH. In the linen room, we provide uniforms to our housekeepers and porters as well as staff across the trust, such as our midwives. We are also responsible for providing lab coats for our lab staff.

The team in the Linen and Post room are great friends. Tina, Kerry and Amanda have known each other for over 20 years, along with Paul who is a valuable member of the team. We truly enjoy our days together and the duties that we complete through each day. We are in constant communication with our NHS trust colleagues from across the hospital and we have a trusting rapport with those who see us often and the post room is a friendly place for all who venture to see us.
