Fertility Treatment Costs and Funding Streams
Some patients may qualify for NHS funding of their fertility treatment. How NHS funding is allocated is decided by your local Integrated Care Board (ICB) and not by Birmingham Women’s Fertility Centre.
Funding does vary between ICBs, so it is strongly suggested that you speak with your GP or access your local ICB website to understand the NHS funding criteria that apply to you before you are referred for fertility treatment. If you do not meet all the criteria for your specific ICB, then you will need to self-fund your treatment. You lose eligibility for NHS funding if you have self-funded treatment.
As an NHS hospital, the consultations and tests that patients need to provide a diagnosis are free of charge in contrast to private clinics.
Funded treatment
The Birmingham Women’s Fertility Centre holds the ICB contracts to provide NHS-funded IVF and ICSI treatments for Birmingham, Hereford and Worcester.
Whilst we will assess if you are eligible for NHS treatment when you are referred into Birmingham Women’s Fertility Centre, we strongly suggest you check your own eligibility prior to being referred. Please speak with your GP, who will be able to answer your questions. Please note, criteria may be subject to change by individual ICBs, so be sure to check their latest guidance for the most up-to-date information.
Self-funded treatment
If you are not eligible for NHS funding, your consultations and most tests needed for your diagnosis will usually be free of charge. You will be notified for any tests that incur a cost and you will need to self-fund your IVF or ICSI treatment when the time comes.
Our up-to-date list of charges is available below. Many of the treatment charges do not include the relevant medications and until you have a treatment plan, it will not be possible to tell you the precise cost of treatment, as the cost of drugs will depend on your individual treatment plan.
It is important to note that if you are funding the treatment yourself, you will be asked to pay at your consent signing appointment, before the start of your treatment.
