Maxillofacial Service
Our maxillofacial service has an expert team of surgeons, dentists, nurses and dental trainees that treat a large number of children each year. On average, we see around 850 children in outpatients and perform 200 operations per year. Oral and maxillofacial surgery is the surgical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck.
Our team works closely with colleagues in Paediatric Dentistry, Craniofacial Surgery, Cleft Lip and Palate, Ear, Nose and Throat and Radiology. We hold regular multidisciplinary clinics alongside these teams to provide the best possible care for our most complex children.
We provide 24-hour cover for all maxillofacial emergencies via the Emergency Department.

The consultants that you could meet when you visit the Maxillofacial department are:

Location and facilities
The Maxillofacial department shares outpatient facilities with the Paediatric Dentistry team, located in the Main Outpatients department at the Children's Hospital. If you are asked to attend an outpatient clinic, your appointment will usually be on a Thursday.
If you need an operation, you will often come to us through the Surgical Day Care Unit and you can go home the same day after your operation has taken place. However, some procedures require you to stay in hospital overnight, and you could be asked to come to the Play and Admissions Centre before your operation.
Contact details
We will get in touch with you to remind you of your outpatient appointment and give you the opportunity to rearrange if you can no longer attend. However, if you need to get in touch with us about your appointment or procedure then please call us on: 0121 333 8078
