Referral process
Inpatient referrals
For inpatient referrals contact the appropriate occupational therapist for each ward or call the department on 0121 333 9490 to speak with a member of the team.
Outpatient referrals
Outpatient referrals are only accepted from consultants at our Children’s Hospital. This could either be in the form of a letter or a completed occupational therapy referral card.
Student placements / shadowing opportunities / work experience
We offer Occupational Therapy clinical placements to undergraduate BSc and MSc students from Coventry University. Placements usually last 6–12 weeks throughout the year.
Short-term observational visits may be available to qualified occupational therapists for research purposes or career development and will require clear identification of learning objectives for the visit.
If you're interested in a career in occupational therapy then we offer one day work experience observing various teams within the department. Please contact the work experience team at bwc.aspire@nhs.net. Due to the specialist nature of our work we can only offer work experience to those aged 16 years and over.
