Birth Reflections Service

Birth Reflections Service

Sometimes following birth, it is helpful to talk through your experience. This might be if things haven’t gone the way you or your birth partner expected or hoped for, or if you want to reflect on your experience and have questions about what happened. The Birth Reflections service allows you to talk about their feelings and better understand what happened during their birth.

The service is available for those who have given birth at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. You can contact us at any time, but we recommend the earliest time to have an appointment is 6 weeks following birth as evidence suggests that over 6-12 weeks, the natural emotional healing process happens for 80% of those who have given birth. There is no upper time limit following a birth, we see people who have had a birthing experience several years ago.

The service is run by experienced Midwives and carried out in person or via a telephone appointment. Face-to-face appointments happen at Lavender House at the Birmingham Women’s Hospital site. You can bring your baby and 1 other support person to the appointment. Appointments are booked for 1 hour, if further time is required, another appointment can be arranged.

You can refer yourself to the service using the form below. Once we have received your referral, we will contact you as soon as possible via telephone to introduce ourselves and offer you an appointment.

Please note: this service is not for formal complaints. If you have any concerns regarding the care you’ve received, please contact PALS who will ensure your concerns are appropriately addressed.
