Leo has worked at Birmingham Women’s Hospital since 2019. He joined as a speciality registrar and then became a consultant in 2021, and departmental lead in 2022.
He trained in and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from Newcastle University. He did a laboratory-based project examining new drug mechanisms to treat preterm labour and birth.
He has an ongoing interest in researching premature birth, multiple pregnancy and complications of twin placentas, fetal surgery and interventions.
He is currently working on a project exploring telehealth interventions for fetal monitoring and examining how antenatal maternity services may be safely delivered in non-hospital settings.
Currently held and relevant previous grants
£50,000 – Local and Neonatal Maternity Systems grant: To set up a national registry of outcomes for fetoscopic laser ablation for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome.
£20,000 – BWC charities grant: database of placental architecture in complicated and uncomplicated monochorionic twin pregnancies.
£20,000 British maternal and fetal medicine society grant: feasibility study on the use of ultrasound and CTG telehealth in obstetrics.
