A Few Minutes With Our Milk Bank Manager
Meet Donna Hearnden, a junior sister and Milk Bank manager.
In a nutshell, explain what your job entails?
I am a junior sister at the Milk Bank, where we recruit new human milk donors, perform screening of the milk donated and pasteurising of the milk ready for packaging and distribution to hospitals throughout the West Midlands and beyond. The milk provided helps the sick and premature babies cared for nationally.
I also work clinically on transitional caring supporting families who are preparing for home following a stay at our hospital.
What achievement are you most proud of (so far)?
My proudest achievements are firstly being a mum to three wonderful boys and secondly becoming a nurse at a mature age having realised that I enjoy caring for others and helping those who are most vulnerable.
If there was one thing you could change in the world, what would it be?
I would end war and suffering, ensuring there was enough of everything for everyone, so we all could meet our potential no matter who you are, where you are from or what your beliefs are, after all we are all human.
Describe yourself in three words?
Caring, reliable, inquisitive.
Finally, not a lot of people know this about me but…
I love to quiz and taking part in a quiz show is what allowed me to retrain and embark on my career in nursing. I’d encourage everyone to go online and find a quiz show and take part. It's so much fun and if you win it's a bonus.
