A golden transplant games in the Steel City for our Team BCH superstars
Our Team BCH superstars, all of whom have been given the Gift of Life through organ donation, enjoyed a golden British Transplant Games 2026 in the Steel City.
Cheered on by their families and loved ones, as well as being kindly supported by our Charity, their performances over the four days of action in Sheffield saw them bring home an amazing 80 medals, 37 of which were gold.
Alongside their incredible individual achievements, Team BCH also won the Best Children’s Team prize.
The annual celebration, which proudly showcases the awesome power of organ donation was this year held in Sheffield.
Our team brilliant team joined more than 1,000 fellow competitors at the games, which has now been running for more than 40 years.
Over the few days, there was fantastic action in the swimming pool, on the track, racquet sport courts and much more.
As always, the most important part of the games were the smiles on faces as organ donation was championed to get people thinking about registering their decision, along with sharing their wishes with their loved ones.
Jemma Mears, Principal Physiotherapist and Team Manager who attended her 21st games this year, said: “It just wonderful. Every year is the same. Myself and our volunteer management team that supports our superstars and families just couldn’t be more proud.
“It’s an awe inspiring few days. You’re witness to the power of organ donation and the many lives it has touched. I’ve said before that it’s almost impossible to put that into words.
“Thank you to our Children’s Hospital Charity for their fantastic support once again.
“As always, the important thing about the British Transplant Games is raising awareness and saying ‘thank you’ to donor families.
“What families go through when they lose a loved one is unimaginable, which is why we’re so incredibly grateful to them when they give so selflessly and agree to offer the Gift of Life to others.
“We’d all encourage people to please, register or re-register your organ donation decision and speak with your loved ones to let them know. It could be the most precious gift you ever give.”
After a short rest, preparations will begin for the 2027 games, which will be ‘heading home’ to Birmingham next summer.
