Appointment of new Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer

Daljit Athwal We are delighted to announce that, following an international search, our board has appointed our new Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Daljit Athwal, who will join us this summer.

Chief Executive, Sarah-Jane Marsh, said: “I am delighted to share the news that Daljit Athwal, currently Chief Nursing Officer at George Eliot Hospital, will be joining the Birmingham Women’s and Children’s family as our Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer when Marion Harris retires in the summer.

“Throughout the recruitment process Daljit’s passion for women’s and children’s physical and mental health has shone through, together with her values of kindness and compassion. The interview panel were bowled over by her skills and experience, especially regarding tackling the inequalities that impact the outcomes of so many of our women, children and families.

“I am in no doubt that Daljit will make a huge contribution to nursing, midwifery and allied health professional leadership, not only at our Trust, but also across the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System, our region and beyond. I very much look forward to working alongside her.”

Daljit has worked in numerous roles in our NHS in community and acute settings, including four years as Deputy Chief Nurse at Nottingham University Hospitals before taking up her current role at George Eliot Hospital in 2018.

She said: “I am delighted to join Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust as their next Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer. This is such an exciting role and I am proud to join a prestigious organisation that has a national and international reputation for excellence in caring for women, children and young people.

“As a Registered Sick Children’s Nurse and Health Visitor, I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with the very talented teams at BWC.

“The health and wellbeing of women, children and young people has never been so important and I hope that my experience will make a positive contribution in supporting the Trust’s ambition to be world-leading and the best place to work and to be cared for. I look forward to meeting my new colleagues in the coming months ahead.”
