Birmingham Women's and Children's pays tribute to Non-Executive Director Mary Martin
Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust is deeply saddened to announce the death of Non-Executive Director Mary Martin.
Mary joined the Trust Board as a Non-Executive Director and quickly became a highly valued member of the organisation. She brought extensive experience from senior leadership roles across the public, private and voluntary sectors, alongside a strong commitment to improving services for patients and communities.
As Chair of the Trust's Major Projects Committee, Mary played a significant role in supporting the organisation's ambitions for the future. She was known for her thoughtful approach, strategic insight and unwavering focus on ensuring that major programmes delivered real benefits for children, young people, families and staff.
Mary also served as a Non-Executive Director at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust and had previously held a similar role at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where she earned widespread respect for her expertise in governance, risk and major capital programmes.
Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, Chair of Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust, said:
"Mary was a highly respected Non-Executive Director whose intellectual rigour, integrity and commitment to public service shaped everything she did. She held genuine ambition for Birmingham Women's and Children's and for the NHS as a whole, believing passionately in the difference healthcare organisations can make to the lives of patients, families and communities.
Mary was never afraid to ask difficult questions, to challenge constructively, or to champion the highest standards of governance and accountability. Her contribution to our Trust was significant and enduring, and she will be greatly missed by colleagues, fellow Board members and all who had the privilege of working with her."
