Birmingham Women’s Hospital welcomes Mr Douglas Wright, High Sheriff of the West Midlands

Mr Doug Wright MBE DL, High Sheriff of the County of West Midlands recently visited Birmingham Women’s Hospital and received a special tour of parts of the hospital, alongside hearing from members of the staff on some of the key projects going on.

A photo of a group of people dressed in hospital uniform lined up smiling at the cameraHe was welcomed with a tour of the hospital, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), one of the post-natal wards, gynecology outpatients, and the newly built specialist bereavement centre, Woodland House.

Mr Wright MBE DL said: “We really do have an amazing hospital in our community which is fueled by so many passionate people.

"We received such warm hospitality and are so thankful for the incredible work the staff do every day. It was truly an inspiring visit.”

The role of the High Sheriff is appointed by the King and serves as the representative of the Crown within the County, and Mr Wright made his declaration in March 2024 as he took on the role.

As High Sheriff of the West Midlands, Mr Wright recognises and celebrates work that makes a difference to people's lives, and groups and individuals that can have a positive impact on their communities.

Alongside the tour of the hospital, Mr Wright had the opportunity to hear about some of the ongoing projects going on in the hospital to further improve the care given to women, families and babies.

Louisa Davidson, Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Head of Midwifery, said: “We were delighted to welcome the High Sheriff to our Women’s Hospital, and to have the opportunity to show him some of the incredible work we do across our hospital.

“Our members of staff are incredibly passionate about the work they do and the care they offer to so many women, families and babies, so it was a brilliant opportunity for them to be able to talk about some of the work that’s ongoing within the hospital.

“We’re really proud to serve the women and families of Birmingham and beyond, so it was a fantastic opportunity to be able to demonstrate the impact we have for our local communities.”
