BWC want families to send in their Moments of Magic for annual awards

Danielle Dillon with her award Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is looking for patients and families to come forward with their ‘Moments of Magic’ to recognise its staff in their annual BWC Spirit Awards.

The event, which always proves to be a highlight for teams, recognises colleagues who have achieved amazing things for those they care for.

The Moment of Magic category, which is nominated for by members of the public, is always hotly contested. The Trust is looking for stories about a member of staff or team who has gone above and beyond.

Last year parents Sarah and David from Cannock, nominated winner, Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse, Danielle Dillon, because of the time she spent caring for their daughter Bonnie-Rae, like decorating her bedspace, and talking with the family to make them feel comfortable, before their daughter sadly passed away.

Sarah said: “It was just me and Dave trying to battle through but having her there to support us was just above and beyond she went for us and I hope this nomination helps her to realise and recognise how much of a difference just the tiny things make.

“She just went the extra mile, those little things that mean so much to us as a family. Bonnie-Rae always loved her, every time that she was working with her, she’d always open her eyes, she recognised her voice just as much as mine and Dave’s. She means so much to us and she truly deserves this award.”

Danielle said: “When I found out I was the winner of the Moment of Magic award, I was completely overwhelmed, really emotional, I was really teary. I felt really proud of myself, I felt proud of the team that I work with that they’d allowed me that time with the family to create such an important part of their journey.

“To Sarah and David, just thank you so much for the nomination it’s something that I’m really proud of, and I’ll forever be proud of. Thanks for letting me be such an important part of your journey and your life and it was an absolute privilege to care for Bonnie-Rae.

“To anybody who is thinking about nominating anyone, please do it, it’s such an amazing thing to be nominated for the Moment of Magic. It has a hugely positive impact on both the individual and the team that they work with and it drives us to do better every single day.

You don’t have long, as the deadline for nominations is Monday 26 September at 5pm. To nominate go to https://bwc.nhs.uk/bwc-spirit-awards/ and nominate in the ‘Moment of Magic’ category.
