BWC's commitment against gender-based violence

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women which started on Saturday (25 November) marks the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence which runs until 10 December.

As part of ‘16 Days of Activism,’ BWC will be focusing on domestic abuse which affects all people regardless of sex, gender, sexuality, class wealth, etc. However, it is accepted that this is a gender-based crime which is disproportionately experienced by women. One in four women will experience some form of domestic abuse in their lifetime. Two women a week are killed by a current or ex-partner.

BWC is committed to creating a violence free workplace and supporting the health and wellbeing of all colleagues, specifically in relation to issues of Domestic abuse. Whilst we are aware we have no legal responsibility in these circumstances, we aim to aid our managers, in the best way possible, to support colleagues who may be victims to feel safe to disclose information and receive support.

If you require support, refer to the guidance. For internal support please contact HR on 0121 333 8355

We have introduced a number of initiatives to improve our response to those experiencing domestic abuse:

  • We have launched our Staff Domestic Abuse Guidance , which has been designed to support the health and wellbeing of colleagues, specifically in relation to issues of Domestic abuse. It aims to equip our managers to support colleagues, who may be victims.
  • We have a Women’s Network which aims to provide a safe and supportive space for women, colleagues who identify as a woman and male allies, to come together to celebrate women in the workplace, and champion issues that only affect or disproportionately affect women the Trust. The group’s priorities:
    • Actively promote and champion a violence free work place
    • Champion the provision of free sanitary products at all Trust sites
    • Actively promote and champion the new Menopause Policy, training and guidance
    • Work with staff networks to promote allyship, providing guidance and support
