BWC’s DAISY Awards ‘perfect’ for showing appreciation

Emmie Stiller with her award

As BWC prepares to reveal its first DAISY Award winner in the coming weeks one colleague has already shared how winning one was an ‘honour ’.

Although the Trust has yet to present its first DAISY Award Emmie Estiller, a nurse at Birmingham Children's Hospital already knows what it feels like to win having been presented with one in her previous role in Saudi Arabia in 2022.

Emmie said: “It was such an honour and blessing as I felt recognised for the hard work, I put in every day in taking care of my patients. This continues to fuel me up to this day.”

The DAISY Award, which is supported by the Trust Charity, is open to anyone to make a nomination to recognise skilful and compassionate care provided by registered nurses, nursing associates and midwives. It is one part of BWC’s recognition programme and sits alongside its Star of the Month and annual BWC Spirit Awards.

Every person nominated will be recognised with monthly overall winners chosen and surprised with a special presentation for them and their colleagues.

Emmie said it is a special moment for all involved and is an important way of showing appreciation.

She said: “In Saudi Arabia, it is customary that when the patients and parents, or any family member, are very appreciative of the care you have rendered, they usually shower you with gifts or ‘hadiya’ as a token of gratitude and probably a good omen of giving back for a speedy recovery and healing of the sick.

“The DAISY Awards have been a perfect medium where the parents can show appreciation for the work we do.”

Each winner will get a surprise presentation on their ward/department, a certificate and ‘Healer’s Touch’ statue, a DAISY pin and there will be cinnamon rolls for them and their colleagues.
All winners are also posted on the Trust’s DAISY section of the website and on the DAISY Foundation’s website.
