CEO Sarah-Jane Marsh CBE to take new role at NHS England

Today I am sharing the news that our Chief Executive, Sarah-Jane Marsh, has been appointed as the National Director of Urgent and Emergency Care and Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the NHS. This is a full-time permanent position, meaning Sarah-Jane will be leaving Birmingham Women’s and Children’s after 15 years of service.
There will be lots of opportunities to say thank you and goodbye to Sarah-Jane over the coming weeks, but I know that her expertise, energy and empathy will be missed by us all, and especially by those who have worked most closely with her.
Sarah-Jane has asked me to share the following -
“Being the CEO of Birmingham Women’s and Children’s has been the privilege of a lifetime, and whatever happens next in my career, a piece of my heart will always remain here.
"Whenever I’m asked what’s so special about us, it’s always the people; the teams we work in, and the inspirational patients and families we serve, and they are what I will miss the most.
“But all good things must come to an end, and I feel the time is right to move on and make a difference in a new way, carrying our values with me as I go.”
Sarah-Jane will be picking up her new role in the New Year. I am currently working through the interim CEO arrangements and will share these in due course. Rest assured that Sarah-Jane’s departure will not change our vision and values, which are shared by the entire Board of the organisation.
