Claire wins DAISY Award for compassionate care

Congratulation to Claire Hollis - who's received the international DAISY Award for delivering outstanding care.
Working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist on our Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit (EPAU), Claire helps provide urgent care for complications including diagnosis and care for miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy and other conditions.
Claire was given the award after she was nominated by a family when she offered outstanding compassionate care during an incredibly difficult time following a miscarriage
which led to a cancer diagnosis.
The nomination said: “I had previously had two miscarriages which had to be dealt with surgery. That's where I'd met Claire at EPAU. She had a warm and genuine care about her which made me feel at ease.
“During my fourth pregnancy, I unfortunately miscarried too and needed surgery again. After surgery, tissue was sent to a lab to confirm if I'd had a molar pregnancy and it was confirmed I had.
“I remember going into hospital every few days to have blood taken whilst waiting for more results to come back and Claire always greeted me and asked how I was.
“Unfortunately, the molar pregnancy progressed to a very rare cancer. “It was Claire who provided me with information and care. It was Claire who held my hand whilst I cried, not understanding how I could potentially have cancer after losing the pregnancy. “It was Claire who sent off forms, phoned the specialist hospital in London. It was Claire who gave me courtesy calls to check in on me and update me.
“It was Claire who would check up on me during chemotherapy when I was hospitalised.“I have genuinely never met someone who has gone above and beyond. Within weeks of miscarrying, surgery, cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, Claire was always there.
“I will forever be grateful for having such an amazing nurse by my side throughout the worst time of my life.” Claire was surprised while working with the award, where she was presented with the ‘Healer’s Touch’ statue, a DAISY pin and cinnamon rolls for her team. Congratulations Claire.
