A educational leader was able to see first-hand how students are trained in state-of-the-art facilities during a visit to Birmingham Women’s Hospital.

Daniel Locke-Wheeton, Chief Executive of Aston University Engineering Academy, met with Raffaela Goodby, Chief People Officer and Louisa Davidson, Director of Midwifery, to discuss how they could continue delivering outstanding learning opportunities for healthcare students.

The visit comes as the hospital prepares to host T-Level midwifery students from AUEA and nursing students from Aston University, AUEA's lead academic sponsor, providing them with valuable insight and experiences

It provided an opportunity to explore future areas of collaboration between the organisations strengthening their partnership.

During the visit, Daniel toured the hospital's state-of-the-art simulation suite, funded by Birmingham Women’s Hospital Charity, where students will develop and practice essential clinical skills in a safe and supportive environment.

He also had the opportunity to meet parents with their newborn babies and many midwifery staff, gaining insight into the compassionate care provided across the hospital's maternity services.

The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to supporting young people in their educational journey and helping to build a skilled and diverse future workforce for the NHS.

Raffaela said:"It was a pleasure to welcome Daniel and colleagues to Birmingham Women's Hospital. Collaborations such as this are vital in helping us inspire and develop the healthcare professionals of tomorrow. We are excited to host T-Level midwifery and nursing students again and provide them with high-quality learning experiences that will support their development, confidence and ambitions within healthcare."

Daniel added: "I was delighted to visit Birmingham Women's Hospital and see first-hand the exceptional learning environment that students will benefit from. The simulation facilities are incredibly impressive, and it was inspiring to meet both staff and families during the visit. We look forward to continuing our partnership and creating meaningful opportunities that enable our students to thrive and pursue rewarding careers in healthcare."
