Congratulations to Andrew Rodgers, winner of the People Development Award at the HEFMA Awards 2022

Andrew Rodgers with his HEFMA Award Andrew Rodgers, Senior Estates Operations Manager from our Vital Services recently celebrated winning the People Development Award at this year’s Health Estates and Facilities Management Association (HEFMA) award ceremony.

HEFMA has been representing estates and facilities management within the NHS across England for over 25 years. Their annual awards were held as part of their National Leadership Forum event, which took place last month at Stadium MK, Milton Keynes.

There were awards in six categories: Efficiency & Improvement, Leader of the Year, People Development, Personal Development, Project of the Year and Team of the Year. Andrew was nominated and shortlisted for the People Development award for his work leading the development of a dedicated pathway for the entire Estates team, from Band 2 to Band 9, building a structure that has since been used to identify apprenticeships and other professional courses that may be suitable for the development of staff.

As a result of Andrew’s hard work, 38% of the workforce in our Estates department are currently involved in further education alongside their positions in Vital Services, studying a range of subjects including Electrical Engineering, Building Services, Hospital Engineering and Carpentry. This apprenticeship training championed by Andrew has proven to be extremely popular among colleagues in Vital Services offering an effective way to grow talent and develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

Andrew said: “I was really surprised when I read about my nomination, as I see people development as part of my role. It does not feel like I go over and above or do anything special. To go on and win it was amazing and it was only possible with support from the organisation and buy in from the team, so I see it as a real collaborative effort from all.”
