CQC Inspection remains ‘Good’ news for our Surgery Services
The Surgery Services at our Children’s Hospital have retained a ‘Good’ overall rating from healthcare watchdog, the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The unannounced two-day inspection in January assessed our surgical services through reviewing a range of information and documentation and speaking to staff, patients and families.
A combined score across the five areas of Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led provided an overall ‘Good’ rating, remaining the same since the last inspection and rating in June 2022.
The report described the services as having a “proactive and positive culture of safety, based on openness and honesty” where “lessons were learnt to continually identify and embed good practice”.
It also highlighted the positive feedback from patients, families and carers about their experiences with a “strong patient-focused culture” where they were “treated with care, dignity and compassion throughout their time on the ward”.
Chief Executive, Matthew Boazman, said: “We are delighted the CQC inspectors have recognised the high quality of our Surgery services – and that they continue to be rated as Good.
“The team work hard to meet the diverse needs of our patients and their families and ensure they are safe, listened to and well cared for. It was particularly pleasing to hear this through the voices of the patients and families the inspectors spoke with.
“Our staff should be rightly proud of the service they provide and that their commitment to high standards has been recognised in this report.”
The inspection did identify two areas for improvement in safety – medicine management and mandatory training – and requested an action plan in response.
Matt Boazman added: “We have already put a plan in place with close monitoring and reporting. We are committed to continuing to improve the service provided and thank the Care Quality Commission for their thorough inspection.”
