DAISY winner Eunice nominated for ‘unwavering compassion’
Eunice Eromosele, a midwife at our Women's Hospital is one of the latest midwives to win the coveted DAISY Award .
She was nominated by a woman she cared for during a particularly difficult stay, and her compassion and commitment to providing the best quality care shone through.
The nomination said: “From the moment I was admitted to ward one, Eunice became more than just a midwife.
“She was calm in the chaos, my strength when I felt vulnerable, and my voice when I struggled to find my own .
“During one of the most overwhelming and emotional moments of my life, she showed unwavering compassion, patience and professionalism. The w ard is full of love and compassion.
“I was on IV antibiotics, but I had the cannula taken out prior to being sent to ward one because it had become sore .
“Eunice came to me and introduced herself and her care that night made me feel better mentally and physically. She also inserted one of the most painless cannulas I have ever had .
“I was in due to a nephrostomy bag change and I didn’t have any bags on me. Other hospitals were unwilling to come and help with the bag change since they said I wasn’t a patient in their hospital. I was worried because I had a serious UTI which was hard to treat, and using one bag for a long time was a contributing factor to worsening my plight.
“ Eunice made several calls to contact urology at other hospitals to at least get a bag and get someone who is capable of changing it all without success . After several hours she finally got a bag . Since it wasn’t her field of expertise , she had to look for someone who knew how to change the bag because she didn’t want to complicate things further for me .
“The site was sore and very pain ful and the tube was dislodged so she didn’t just want anyone who didn’t know what they were doing to touch it . After several hours of trying, she finally found someone. I was very impressed with the length she went to get this done. She still persevered despite all the difficulties and rejection and for that I’m grateful.”
