Dayna Wright, ambitious Midwifery Lead to become our new Deputy Matron for Community Services

We’d like to wish Dayna Wright, our Lead Midwife for our Home birth team and our Continuity of Carer teams, a huge ‘congratulations’ upon earning her new role as our Deputy Matron for Community Services.

Dayna Wright

Dayna is due to begin her new role towards the end of October and will be completing her master’s degree in Advanced Midwifery Practices remotely with the Anglia Ruskin University, funded by our Midwifery services. Dayna will be completing the course outside of her working hours, part-time alongside her new role.

Dee Smith, our Community Services Matron said:

“We’re incredibly proud and happy to invest in talented and enthusiastic midwives like Dayna. Her dedication and inspiring leadership skills have transformed our midwifery services across Home birth and the Continuity of Carer teams. She will be taking on more responsibility, ambitiously overseeing four community teams.”

Community Services involve supporting our women through our midwifery practices in the community to ensure they receive consistent care through and following their pregnancies.

Dayna began her midwifery development journey in 2012 as one of our first-year student midwives, marking her 10th year anniversary with us at our Women’s Hospital.

She said:

“I’ve been supported massively through development through education and I’m happy to be a part of a service that invests in its people. It’s a safe space to grow – I absolutely feel that there are so many opportunities to develop. All you have to do is ask. If you want something, go for it.”

Volunteering in Gynaecology and in homeless shelters for young people in her teenage years, Dayna was inspired to be an advocate and supporter for women across Northamptonshire. Originally from Bedfordshire, later moving to Birmingham to further extend her advocacy, Dayna found herself drawn to leadership roles that would allow her to drive improvement in our midwifery services. In her earlier years, she looked up to her aunt who worked as a nurse and her best friend’s sister who became a midwife.

“This is a development position and I’m so happy to be working alongside Dee to continue my education and practice of midwifery. I’m excited to keep promoting and protecting our midwifery services, ensuring that others can be nurtured in the same way that I have been. The opportunity for progression is expansive across our Women’s Hospital and I’m excited to take on the new challenges of my new Deputy Matron role.”

We asked Dayna who the first person she called to share her good news, and she said:

“My partner at the time, now my wife Roisin – I was told on the 5th July that I’d been selected for the role. We decided to go to our favourite Chinese restaurant in Birmingham’s Chinese Quarter, it was a fab celebration. And then in the same month, we tied the knot and got married on the 30th July.”

We think it’s safe to say that it was a good month for Dayna – we want to wish Dayna all of the best of luck in her new role and in her marriage to Roisin. Thank you for sharing your story on your appointment as our new Deputy Matron for Community Services.
