Dr Wendy Reid awarded honorary CBE
Dr Wendy Reid, non-executive director at our Trust, has been recognised for her work in the field of health education with the award of an Honorary CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
The title is acknowledgement of her significant contribution and the prominent role she has played in a career spanning over four decades in clinical practice, medical education, and national healthcare leadership.
She said: “I am delighted to be recognised for the work I have led in health education as it reflects the hard work and commitment of colleagues over many years. It is a privilege to be able to continue working for the NHS in my non-executive role at BWC.”
Throughout her career Dr Reid has held several senior appointments, including Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at the Royal Free Hospital NHS Trust and Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London.
She served as Executive Medical Director and Director of Education and Quality at Health Education England, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the national medical education agenda. She was also elected Vice President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, contributing to clinical standards and professional development across the specialty.
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust Chairman, Sir Bruce Keogh, said: "Wendy has made a huge contribution to NHS workforce and education over a number of years.
“She led the Hospital at Night programme which led to better staffing and greater safety overnight in hospitals around England. She was then instrumental in setting up Medical Education England which later transformed into Health Education England, where she was the first Medical Director and later the Chief Executive.
“We are extremely lucky and proud to benefit from her enormous experience and expertise on our Trust Board. I wish Wendy huge congratulations on behalf of the whole BWC community."
