First of its kind bereavement centre receives national recognition for design
The UK’s first purpose-built bereavement centre for baby loss has been recognised as an “Exceptional Healthcare Facility” in a national awards ceremony.
Woodlands House, funded by our Women’s Hospital Charity and based at the site, is a non-clinical space that offers families who have experienced pregnancy or baby loss a calm and quiet environment and a safe and private place away from the main building.
The National Federation of Builders Awards highlighted the space, built and designed by BSN Group Construction and PH Design, for being fully accessible while integrating modern technology.
Shaped by feedback from families, Woodland House is set to the side of the main hospital with its own private entrance, there are several separate counselling rooms and outdoor space, as well as a communal lounge for support groups and religious rituals, including a washing facility.
The centre sees around 50 appointments each month and families can come into Woodland House for appointments for on-going care, as well as having access to the house while an inpatient in the main hospital.
