Industrial action in August

The British Medical Association is taking industrial action across the UK as part of its dispute over pay with the Government.

This week Consultants will be taking action from 7am Thursday (24/8/23) until 7am Saturday (26/8/23).

This will mean that some of our services such as outpatient clinics and some procedures like surgery will be affected during this time and in the days before and after the industrial action.

We will be contacting anyone whose care will be affected.

If you do not hear from us please attend your appointment as planned.

As part of our efforts to do everything we can to minimise the impact on patients, we may have to reschedule your appointment or procedure at short notice. If we have to do this we are very sorry and will do everything we can to rearrange your care as soon as possible.

Our teams across our Children’s and Women’s hospitals and in our Mental Health Services, have worked hard to make sure that our emergency and urgent services remain there for our women, children and young people and are safe.

The industrial action does mean that our Emergency Department, whilst safe, will have reduced staff numbers which may mean longer waits for non-emergency or urgent patients.

We will continue to review and update our plans and provide updates when available.

Although pay levels are a matter between national trade unions and the Government, we hope that a way forward can be found soon. BWC values and recognises the importance of good pay and is grateful every day for the hard work of all our colleagues.
