Lucy is our latest DAISY Award winner

Our latest DAISY winner is the wonderful Lucy Williamson, Practice Development Midwife and Specialist Midwife in Breech Birth at our Women’s Hospital.
She received a special nomination from a patient who delivered her second child naturally while they were in a breech position with Lucy’s help. A breech baby is a baby who is positioned with their bottom or feet down, rather than their head.
Lucy was described as “accommodating, approachable and extremely knowledgeable.”
Her heartfelt nomination said: “This was my second pregnancy with a second breech. The first delivery I felt I was pushed into having a caesarean which really affected me mentally and physically postpartum. This time around, I was determined to do anything possible to have a normal delivery which would allow me to be there for my four year old and my newborn.
“Lucy was so confident and instilled a confidence in me which empowered me to take the decision to try for a vaginal breech delivery. At every point of contact, she instilled more and more faith that I could give it a go. Because of her help, I got through a natural birth and this postpartum recovery has been life changing for me.
“Thank you so so much. I dont think I would have had the faith to go through with it, should it not have been for Lucy. I really hope, other women in the same position as me are given this option.”
Lucy was surprised in the lecture theatre with her award by Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Daljit Athwal, and Associate Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Head of Midwifery, Louisa Davidson.
On receiving the award, Lucy said: “I am very grateful to be given this award, and it is particularly meaningful that the nomination was from a family that I cared for. I provided care for this family as part of the work I do in the Breech service at the Women’s Hospital. The breech service has now been running for two years, and it is very rewarding to see the service is having a positive impact.”
Congratulations Lucy on your well-deserved recognition.
