More than 30 young people, all of whom have been given the Gift of Life, proudly flew the flag for our Children’s Hospital, at the British Transplant Games. Their inspiring efforts resulted in them winning 78 medals, as well as the Best Liver Team and Best Children’s Team titles.

The annual celebration that proudly showcases the awesome power of organ donation was this year held in Oxford between 31 July and 3 August.

During the four days of packed action our Team BCH took part in a host of sports, including swimming, track and field, archery, tennis and much more.

Our superstars performed fantastically and returned home with an impressive 78 medals, which included an amazing 34 gold, 33 silver and 11 bronze.

Most importantly through, there were plenty of smiles as organ donation was championed to get people thinking about registering their decision, along with sharing their wishes with their loved ones.

Jemma Mears, our Team BCH Manager, said: “It’s hard to describe the atmosphere for anyone who has not been fortunate enough to attend a British Transplant Games. It’s such a special few days for everyone involved.

“Over the four days you see the immense power of organ donation and how it’s touched so many lives. It’s amazingly humbling.

“The most important thing about the British Transplant Games is raising awareness. It’s almost impossible to comprehend what families go through when they lose a loved one, which is why we’re so incredibly grateful to them when they give so selflessly and agree to offer the ‘Gift of Life’ to someone else in need.

“Do please, register or re-register your organ donation decision and speak with your loved ones to let them know. It could be the most precious gift you ever give.”

After a short rest, preparations will begin for the 2026 games, which will be heading to Sheffield next summer. We can’t wait to get there.
