Midwives share expertise at Midland Maternity and Midwifery Festival

Colleagues from Birmingham Women’s Hospital recently attended and presented at the annual Midland Maternity and Midwifery Festival to showcase some of the latest maternity projects and share their expertise.
The festival celebrates maternity and midwifery work around the West Midlands and offers an opportunity to bring together leaders from across the region to discuss the latest news and projects.
Rob Moore, Practice Development Midwife with a focus on Maternity Care Assistants and Maternity Support Workers, hosted a session based on 'Upskilling the MSW workforce — neonatal observations', and shared the work done by our Trust to continue enhancing the skills of our Maternity Support Workers.
Adele Lamb, Becca Williamson and Niamh Smit, Preceptorship Practice Development Midwives, delivered a joint presentation on 'Preceptorship practice development midwives and the role of clinical midwifery educators as a package of support for newly qualified midwives', detailing our comprehensive support system for new midwives.
Gemma Price, Lead Professional Midwifery Advocate, presented on 'TRiM: One year on - embedding trauma awareness in maternity services', highlighting our progress in fostering a trauma-informed environment, and formed a panel discussion on birth trauma.
