National nursing award presented to Birmingham Children’s Hospital nurse
A nurse at our Children’s Hospital has received a national award for her role in a humanitarian mission that brought children from Gaza to the UK for lifesaving medical treatment.
Sarne Mawby, Junior Sister for KIDS/NTS, was presented with a Chief Nursing Officer for England (CNO) Silver Award for her exemplary contribution supporting the international humanitarian trip.
Sarne said: “I was really pleased and shocked to receive the award. I have worked for the NHS for 43 years and it was a privilege to support the humanitarian mission – it was a really special thing to have been a part of.”
Sarne supported the evacuation as a clinical volunteer, helping to care for children during their vital journey to the UK.
Ellen Duke, Deputy Director, Children and Young People’s Nursing for NHS England, shared: “I was delighted to present Sarne with this award in recognition of her outstanding contribution and dedication to providing excellent patient care.
“Sarne’s ability to connect with others meant that the flight team could rapidly build a bond around a collective goal, to get everyone back to the UK safely and compassionately.
“I have no doubt that Sarne's approach made a significant contribution to the success of the trip.”
The CNO for England Silver Award, which was presented to Sarne at the hospital by Ellen, recognises the significant and outstanding contribution made by nurses and midwives in England.
