Our reclaimed stable spreads a Christmas message to be kind to the planet

Image of reclaimed stable This year outside Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH) we have something very special underneath our Christmas tree. Our Estates department, in conjunction with Chaplaincy have built a stable representing the first Christmas story made entirely from reclaimed and recycled material.

As a major consumer of resources, we realise that our healthcare services have a significant impact on the environment. The Trust remains committed to reducing these impacts, whilst also working towards creating a more efficient and sustainable system.  In the New Year, our Trust aims to launch our ‘Green Plan’ with renewed commitments to meeting the NHS targets of net-zero by 2040.

Our reclaimed stable was created with the support of our Charity and featured in the launch of The Sun newspaper’s Charity Christmas Appeal (Read their feature here). We are inviting patients, families and staff to help populate the nativity scene between now and Christmas with characters and animals made from materials that would otherwise have been thrown away. The overall goal is to lift spirits through the creativity of all involved and to spread a positive message about recycling while adding to an increasingly festive scene.
