Stories from around our Trust

The Smallest Things Charter – How baby Spencer came into the world at 30 weeks old

It’s World Prematurity Day and we’re marking some of the incredible stories which take place on our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), when babies are born pre-term. One of those stories is very close to home, as it involved a Junior Sister on NICU, Heather Gittings, who gave birth in October 2021.

Community Midwife Angela talks about her experience with Cytomegalovirus (CMV) during her pregnancy

One of our Community Midwives, Angela Andrews from our Quinton Lane Team, has recently been published in Midwives Information and Resource Service’s (MIDIRS) Midwifery Digest for her article raising awareness for expectant mothers and families about congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV), following her personal experience with the viral infection during her pregnancy.

Have your say on our local health and care priorities

We’re now working as part of an Integrated Care Partnership that combines all the local NHS organisations, general practice, pharmacists, dentists, opticians, voluntary, faith and community sector and Healthwatch. Every part of England is now covered by an Integrated Care Partnership, with a responsibility to collaborate together to improve care, and reduce the differences in health outcomes between different groups. If you live, work or are cared for in Birmingham or Solihull, the decisions this partnership makes will affect you.

Achieving our Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation

We’re incredibly proud of our Anaesthetists across our Children’s Hospital today for earning their Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) awarded to us by the Royal College of Anaesthetics (RCoA) for our commitment to patient safety and excellence of care.
