National Occupational Therapy Week ‘OTs for Equity’ – A moment with Heads of Occupational Therapy, Leah Berry and Madeleine Paul 

Last week, we marked National Occupational Therapy Week, where our Heads of Occupational Therapy, Madeleine Paul from our Children’s Hospital and Leah Berry from Forward Thinking Birmingham shared the importance of addressing the challenges that people face in regards to health equity. Birmingham is an epicentre of multiculturalism in the UK, which inspires our Occupational Therapists and support workers across our services.  

Remember remember for the fifth of November - Bonfire Night Guidance

If you're planning on marking Bonfire Night tonight (Friday 5 November) with sparklers, rockets and cracklers, wrap up warm and stand a safe distance back from firework displays to avoid accidents from happening. We've shared a short 'Remember Remember' Bonfire Night poem offering some simple advice to keep the family safe this weekend. 

'Honeycomb' social media craze related burns injuries after children attempt to cook the dalgona treat from the popular Netflix series. 

Popular Netflix series, ‘Squid Game’ has inspired a new TikTok craze called the ‘honeycomb’ or ‘dalgona’ challenge where players must break a honeycomb treat into a template shape. Experts at Children’s Hospital Burns Centre have issued a warning to families after a worrying increase in the number of young people suffering from burns-related injuries associated with cooking without supervision.  

Launching a new British Sign Language Video proposed by our Interpreting and Cultural Insight Team

The Patient Experience team is excited to share a British Sign Language (BSL) video on how to raise a concern or give feedback. The video was co-produced by CommPlus, our Interpreting Agency for BSL. They expressed delight that idea of a video had been proposed by the Interpreting & Cultural Insight Team at BWC, “CommPlus are pleased to work with an NHS Trust who put inclusion at the heart of their care. Accessible information goes beyond the walls of the hospital and extends to BSL translated videos and other information for the community.” 

Celebrating Black History Month

To celebrate the Black History Month, we have had the pleasure of speaking with a variety of inspirational people across our Trust, sharing their stories and opinions on diversity and inclusion. Our creative Clinical Photography and Design team (CPAD) have worked incredibly hard to produce an artistic series of portraits, celebrating the rich diversity and representation across our hospitals.

For the month of Menopause Awareness, we are joined by Consultant Gynaecologist and lead in Fertility and Menopause at our Women’s Hospital, Dr Lynne Robinson who shares her advice on managing the menopause.
