Proudly celebrating International Day of the Midwife, Tuesday 5 May

Two midwives smiling and holding a bannerInternational Day of the Midwife takes place on Tuesday 5 May and is a special opportunity to celebrate the contributions our midwives make to women and families in Birmingham and beyond.

Our midwives work all year round to provide ambitious, brave and compassionate care to patients and help deliver more than 8,200 babies every year. Today is a chance to say a special ‘thank you’.

Within our hospital, we have a huge variety of midwifery roles providing care and support at every step of the pregnancy journey.

Some of the midwives from across our Women’s Hospital spoke a little about their role.

You can watch our Meet the Midwives full video on our Trust Youtube channel.

Some of the women and families we care for have also sent in their heartfelt messages of thanks to midwives who made a difference in their care.

You can watch the special message of thanks on our Trust Youtube channel.

Daljit Athwal, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, has spared a special ‘thank you’ message for our midwifes in the May edition of Talk BWC
