Such a special night celebrating our BWC Spirit Awards 2023

Award winners celebrate on stage

What a special night. Our annual BWC Spirit Awards offers the opportunity to reflect and celebrate the amazing work of colleagues right across our Trust. Our 2023 ceremony was no exception, in fact it was bigger and better than ever before, having received a record-breaking 850 nominations.

This year’s glittering ceremony took place at Edgbaston Stadium in mid-October. Around 250 colleagues including our fantastic finalists, were in attendance for the inspirational event.

It was filled with ambition, bravery and compassion throughout with stories of individuals and teams all going the extra mile and living our values for our women, children and families.

Matt Boazman, who opened and closed the awards – his first as Chief Executive, said: “It was an honour and privilege to be able to be in the room for the ceremony. The atmosphere was amazing throughout.

"Hearing so many amazing stories, it was truly humbling and filled me with such immense pride.

“Our awards this year have been record-breaking with so many nominations. I’d like to say a huge congratulations once again to every single nominee, our finalists and winners. Thank you for your ambition, bravery and compassion.

“We’ve already kicked off our plans for 2024. They can’t come soon enough.”

Highlights included our Lifetime Achievement Award winner Elaine Kirwan, Outstanding Clinical Team winners Delivery Suite and Obstetrics Theatre Team, and our prestigious Moment of Magic winner Nicki Twigg, an award was voted for by patients, families and members of the public.

Moment of Magic winner Nicki Twigg said: “I was very shocked! I honestly did not expect to win at all. Watching the video where the family and boys spoke about me was incredibly emotional. Seeing the reactions of my husbands, friends and colleagues as well as the people who nominated me as my name was read out will always stay with me.

“I felt so honoured that the family had taken the time to nominate me and to hear how much my work had impacted them as a family as well as the life of my patients. I can honestly say that the nomination and awards were an absolute highlight of my career and I will treasure the whole experience.”
