Team BCH enjoy a golden British Transplant Games in Coventry

Team BCH all together with medals and trophies The superstars of Team BCH brought home the coveted Best Children’s Team title for an amazing 25th time running after enjoying another golden British Transplant Games.

Birmingham Children Hospital was proudly represented by a 41 young people at the annual event, held this time in Coventry (27 - 30 July). All of whom have been given the Gift of Life through organ donation.

The year’s instalment of the popular event, which has been a fixture on the calendar for more than four decades, attracted over 1,000 competitors of all ages from across the country, who competed in multiple sports, including athletics, tennis, swimming and archery.

Team BCH amassed another impressive medal haul – 80 in total, including 36 golds.

As is always the case, the driving aim behind the games was to celebrate and champion organ donation; not only asking people to think about registering but also, importantly, sharing their wishes with their loved ones.

Sara Clarke, Team BCH Manager for 19 British Transplant Games, said: “I’ve been doing this now for a long time but the games never cease to amaze you. I’m so proud of every one of our Team BCH superstars – each and every one of them have been fantastic.

“The same goes for all of our supporters and volunteer management team.

“It’s always hard to describe the incredible power of organ donation – seeing it in action at the games is a true privilege.

“We know that families face such a difficult decision when they lose a loved one, which is why we’re so incredibly grateful to them when they give so selflessly to agree to offer the ‘Gift of Life’ to another family in need of help.

“Hopefully, the games will have shared this powerful message once again to help save more lives in the future.”

After a short rest, preparations will begin for next year’s games, which are being held in Nottingham.

Our team and supporters are encouraging everyone to register their decision about organ donation and, importantly, share their wishes with their loved ones. It could be the most important conversation you ever have. Visit the NHS Organ Donation website for information and advice: https://www.organdonation.nhs.uk/
