Team’s sights already set on British Transplant Games in Sheffield

Preparation is already underway ahead of this year’s British Transplant Games in Sheffield – and we’re on the hunt for more stars to join our team.
Our Children’s Hospital superstars, known as Team BCH, have been given the gift of life and will be flying our flag between 6 and 9 August.
And if your child has had a transplant at our hospital and keen to be involved in the event then we want to hear from you.
Jemma Mears, Transplant Games Team Manager and Principal Physiotherapist, said: “It might be quite strange to be thinking of the games in the summer during these dark winter months but we’re already planning on making it another Transplant Games to remember.
“The only way to describe it to anyone who has never had the privilege of attending is ‘very special’. The atmosphere is fantastic. Everyone supports each other and come together as one to celebrate the power of organ donation.
“We’re still on the lookout for more superstars to join our team. If your child has had a transplant at our hospital, please do get involved. There are plenty of sports on offer and it is a fantastic opportunity to meet friends with similar experiences.”
The event, which is always a highlight in our calendar, is expected to attract more than 1,000 competitors and many supporters for the four-day celebration of organ donation.
Athletes will participate in multiple sports, including athletics, swimming, tennis and much more.
Our fantastic team, supported generously by our Charity, are already counting down to the opening ceremony after their exploits last year in Oxford, which saw them bag 79 medals in total, along with the Best Children’s and Best Liver Team titles.
If you’re interested in joining Team BCH this year, simply drop Jemma an email by the end of March.
