Teamwork shines through in our latest ABC Star of the Month Awards

Exterior of BWH

Front of Birmingham Women's HospitalEvery few weeks, we celebrate the ambition, bravery and compassion of colleagues through our prestigious ABC Star of the Month awards.

Asha Marichetty Rameshbabu

They’ve been a firm favourite in our diaries for more than a decade, with our finalists and winners announced at our All-Staff Briefings led by our Chief Executive.

We receive the most amazing nominations from patients, families and colleagues who want to recognise their superstar individual or team.

Our latest winners come from our Women’s Hospital and their fantastic nomination speaks of an amazing team effort that had lifesaving results.

A number of people contributed to the care of a patient who had precipitous labour - a birth after an unusually rapid period of time. They began to bleed heavily and the cause was not immediately obvious.

Through the expert care and teamwork of everyone involved, they diagnosed and treated successfully.

Congratulations to all our colleagues involved, including members of our Anaesthetics, Theatres, Obstetrics teams, along with the shift leader, midwives, Blood Bank technician and everyone else who played a part in supporting.

Shazia Samheen

Well done to our fab finalist, Asha Marichetty Rameshbabu, Clinical Research Practitioner, who was nominated by a colleague who wanted to recognise the difference she has made in short period of time.

The nomination said: "Asha has only been at BWC for four months but has already made a big impression and contributed significantly to recruitment for the research studies she supports. In particular, she is the top recruiter for the Generation study (genetic testing in newborn babies for 200+ rare genetic conditions) both in Birmingham and nationally.

“Not only is she hard-working and successful, but she is friendly, approachable and always supportive of her colleagues in the Clinical Research Facility. We always tell her how wonderful she is, but she really deserves the recognition for her amazing contribution to research."

Sukhjit Kaur

Thank you for all your hard work Asha.

Our final fantastic finalists are Shazia Samheen, Katie Tyler and Sukhjit Kaur from our Gynaecology Outpatient Department.

Again, their nomination shared the story of amazing teamwork that ensured potentially lifesaving care was given to a woman attending a clinic.

Upon arrival at their clinic, it was clear the patient wasn’t feeling well. Working together, they offered support, including a consented ECG, shortly after they called 999.

That scan was reviewed and showed significant findings, which were shared with the ambulance crew before they journeyed to a nearby emergency department.

Katie Tyler

They went on to have emergency lifesaving surgery.

The patient has since been back in touch to thank our team for their prompt action and compassion they showed during a hugely challenging time.

Congratulations to our tremendous trio.

Do you know a star who has lived our Trust values of being ambitious, brave and compassionate? It might be a team like some of this month’s nominees?

Head to our SOTM page and recognise them with a nomination.
