Triplets triumph for Georgie
It was three times the delight for mum Georgie, who celebrated the birth of triplet boys at Birmingham Women’s Hospital.
Georgie Bradnock, from Willenhall, attended her 12-week appointment with no idea what she was about to hear.
She said: “We went to the routine 12-week scan not even contemplating anything, so the sonographer told us she thought it was twins, I was so surprised as there is no history of twins in our family, and then she gasped and said she’d found another heartbeat, so there was three.”
From that moment, Georgie was referred to the Fetal Medicine team at the Women’s Hospital, led by Dr Deepa Rajan, who took over her care due to the high-risk nature of her pregnancy.
Georgie said: “From 16 weeks we had an appointment every two weeks for growth scans, due to the high risk of twin-to-twin transfusion (where twins receive uneven blood flow, with one twin getting more that the other) they wanted to keep us updated on their progress which meant we needed the extra scans.
“The staff were always really nice. Our consultant Deepa was amazing along with the care. It was exactly what you want in that situation.. The care was amazing. She even came into theatres to see us on our planned caesarean section to see that I was doing well.
“I was nervous about the C Section, but it was the safest way to deliver them, so we were booked in between 32 and 34 weeks. It was so different to the other birth I had, I felt calm and reassured, there were around 20 people in a row ready to help, everyone was happy to chat and kept it relaxed.
Now Georgie is mum to identical twins George and Max, and fraternal twin Edward, something that she and her daughter Eve, 3, is relishing.
Georgie said: “Eve is loving the boys, she loves that two are identical and getting the chance to hold them.”
Dr Deepa Rajan, Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine, said: “It was a pleasure to have cared for Georgie and her triplets in the pregnancy, and I am very pleased with the good outcome for the babies and the family.
“The West Midlands Fetal Medicine Centre at BWC cares for women with complex twins and higher order multiple pregnancies and it is a very gratifying experience following them through their pregnancy journey and providing the adequate support they need. I am privileged to be part of the amazing team.”
