Claire Powers
Public Governor
Claire’s eldest child was born at 26 weeks and had a very stormy neonatal journey. He stayed in Birmingham Children's in both Intensive Care and the Neonatal Surgical Ward before coming home at 5 months old. Claire attended pre-pregnancy clinics at Birmingham Women's prior to having her younger daughter there. Her eldest has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and is partially sighted with sensory and behavioural difficulties so she can relate to the lives of the patients and their families at Birmingham Children's as well as the neonatal and maternity world of Birmingham Women's.
Claire holds an MBA from Cranfield University and has past management experience working as Head of IT and later Head of Customer Services for a utility company along with being a Chartered Management Accountant and HR professional. Claire also represents Dudley at the Regional Parent Carer Forum.
Claire is keen to focus on the needs of people living in the Black Country in accessing the 2 hospitals and has a particular interest in ensuring hospital processes are truly centred around individual patient and family needs taking into account each personal and unique situation and history.
