Patient/Carer of Patient Governor

Both of Clare’s sons were born at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Her eldest son was taken ill shortly after his birth and the wonderful staff in intensive care in the neo-natal unit saved his life. Clare’s step-son has also received treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital for a brain tumour. Consequently, Clare is passionate about helping the Trust to continue to provide excellent services and to ensure that patients and families like hers have their needs considered in future plans and development.

Clare is an experienced lawyer, having advised a number of NHS Trusts earlier in her career and more recently providing board-level legal advice on a wide range of legal issues in her role as Head of Legal at the RAC. Her current role is Director of Risk & Compliance at the RAC, advising the board on risk management and compliance issues in a heavily regulated environment.  

Clare has a particular interest in ensuring that patients and families receive the emotional support that they require in difficult and complex situations.
